Customs on electric vehicles to be based on value

Presenting the national budget for the upcoming fiscal year in the federal parliament, Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle said the new system will replace the existing practice of imposing customs duties based on battery capacity.

KATHMANDU, May 29: The government has announced that customs duties on electric vehicles (EVs) will now be determined based on their value.



Presenting the national budget for the upcoming fiscal year in the federal parliament, Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle said the new system will replace the existing practice of imposing customs duties based on battery capacity.

Under the revised arrangement, EV imports will be taxed according to their market value, a move aimed at restructuring the taxation framework for electric mobility in the country.
