New Road shops shutter following dispute with KMC police over parking

KATHMANDU, July 3: Business owners in New Road shut down their shops on Wednesday in protest after city police wheel-locked a customer’s motorcycle.



Traders around the Tamrakar House area took to peaceful protest, accusing the city police of excessive action and complaining that even brief motorcycle stops were being penalized.

They said repeated appeals about the lack of proper parking have gone unheard, prompting them to close shutters in protest.


Meanwhile, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Police acknowledged a brief dispute over parking but described the situation as minor.
