Nepal Cricket Fan Club had invited Thapa, who is studying in Punjab, India, to play domestic cricket here. The 17-year-old, who was born in Torang, Gulmi, has been studying in India from an early age. [break]
Thapa represented the fan club in the Kathmandu District Selection Tournament that concluded on Thursday. He scored 46 runs and claimed two wickets in his first match for the fan club. He is also a member of Kathmandu district team, which is participating in the Region No 3 Selection Tournament that began on Friday. He scored 18 runs and claimed a wicket for Kathmandu district against Bhaktapur on Friday. Thapa impressed the Nepali team management with his pace bowling and the association decided to call him up to the camp.
“He is a good player. We want to see more from him and that’s why we called him up to the camp,” said Pubudu Dassanayake, the coach of the national cricket team.
Thapa claimed that he has bowled up to 134.6 km/hr. It is said that he bowls around 130 km/hr on average.
He had represented Patiala district of Punjab in various age group tournaments in India.
“My dream is to share the dressing room with the Nepali national team in future,” said Thapa.
Along with Thapa, Arjun Adhikari also came from Punjab to play for the fan club and is playing for Kathmandu district team now. Adhikari is originally from Butwal. Likewise, Sujan KC came from Jharkhand to play for Lalitpur in the ongoing tournament. KC is also originally from Gulmi.
