This is the consecutive third defeats for Nepal in the championship as it had lost both matches against Scotland in the first round--first match by three runs and second by nine-wicket in July in Scotland.PNG chased 233 runs target losing eight wickets with three balls remaining. This is the first win for PNG as it had lost both matches against the Netherlands in the first round.
John Reva (not out 15 runs off 19 balls) hit eight runs in the first three balls of the final over (50th over) with PNG needing only six runs from that over to gain two points.
Thanks to Assad Vala's 87 runs from 107 balls with six boundaries in the crucial moment helped PNG chase the target. PNG's eight batsmen scored runs in double digits.
PNG started the run chase comfortably after Tony Ura, who scored 30 off 26 balls that included a six and five boundaries, shared 35 runs with VaniMorea (12 off 38).
Assad did the real damages to Nepal bowlers before departing to pavilion by Shakti Gauchan in the 48.2 overs as last wicket.
Charles Amini's 35 runs from 42 balls was also crucial for PNG to chase the target in dying moment.
Skipper ParasKhadka, himself a bowler, used other six bowlers as well but they all failed as opposition batsmen got chances to stay at the crease for longer time and contribute with bats.
Skipper Paras and MehboobAlam bagged two wickets each, while Sompal Kami, Shakti Gauchan and SagarPun.
The two reliable bowlers Sompal Kami conceded 56 runs in nine overs and BasantRegmi gave away 28 runs in 4.3 overs.
Earlier, winning the toss and opting to bat first, Nepal put 232/8 in allotted 50 overs as SharadVesawkar and SubashKhakurel completed half centuries.
Nepal had poor start losing opener Anil Mandal for a duck, however Subash, who scored 63 runs facing 104 balls, shared 29 runs with Sagar Pun (10 off 23) for the second wicket and added 47 runs with GyanendraMalla (23 off 26) for the third wicket to rescue the team. Subash, Sagar and Gyanendra hit two boundaries each.
Nepal was 86/4 as skipper Paras failed to put good show as he scored only six runs facing 16 balls.
Subash's 56 runs stand for the fifth wicket with Sharad (78 runs off 82 balls) was crucial for Nepali innings. Sharad smashed five boundaries.
Sharad also shared 52 runs with tail-ender Basant (not out 24 runs off 23 balls).
Assad Vala bagged highest three wickets, while Mahuru Dai picked up two, Norman Vanua, Chad Soper and John Reva claimed a wicket each.
The second match between the teams will be played on Wednesday.
