KATHMANDU, June 21: Nepal and France held the fifth meeting of the Nepal-France Bilateral Consultation Mechanism (BCM) in Kathmandu on Thursday as part of the ongoing diplomatic dialogue between the two countries.
The Nepali delegation was led by the Joint Secretary and Head of the Europe and the Americas Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, accompanied by officials from various ministries. The French side was led by the Director for Asia and Oceania at the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and included the Ambassador of France to Nepal, the Deputy Chief of Mission, and a desk officer.
Fifth meeting Nepal-UK Bilateral Consultation Mechanism held
The meeting served as a platform to review existing cooperation and explore opportunities to further strengthen ties, particularly in light of the 75th anniversary of the first ascent of Annapurna by French climbers Maurice Herzog and Louis Lachenal.
The two sides held comprehensive discussions on a wide range of issues including economic partnership, science and technology, education, culture, and climate action. Both sides expressed interest in enhancing collaboration in emerging areas such as renewable energy and disaster risk reduction, including early warning systems.
Regional and global developments were also discussed, with both countries reaffirming their shared commitment to multilateralism.
The sixth meeting of the mechanism will take place in Paris at a mutually convenient date.
