NC regional representative shot dead

JANAKPUR, Feb 6: Regional representative of the Nepali Congress (NC) Dhanusha-1 Rajendra Prasad Yadav has been shot dead.

According to police, Yadav of Dhanusha Balakhor-4 was shot dead by an unidentified armed gang on Friday night.Yadav, 45, has received bullets in his belly, chest and neck, eyewitness NC lawmaker Mokta Kumari Yadav told Republica.

The incident took place when Rajendra was attending a wedding ceremony taking place in the house of lawmaker Mokta Kumari. An unidentified gang called Rajendra outside the wedding house through telephone and shot him dead, said lawmaker.

Police are intensifying their investigation to find out the culprit behind Rajenra's murder, said SP Ram Datta Joshi.

Slain Yadav had been the president of a village committee of Nepali Congress (democratic) prior to the unification of Nepali Congress. Regional representative of the party Rajendra is survived by his wife and two sons.

Yadav's body has been brought to Janakpur Hospital for postmortem. UDMF cadres have been targeting NC leaders of late. Earlier, UDMF cadres had attacked houses belonging to NC General Secretary Bimalendra Nidhi and central member Ananda Dhungana, among others.
