KATHMANDU, Oct 9: The Office Bearers’ meeting of Nepali Congress (NC) is scheduled for 1 PM today at a hotel in Lalitpur. However, NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba will not be attending the meeting.
In the absence of President Deuba, Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka will chair the meeting. Sources within the NC said Deuba is likely to hand over the role of Acting President to Khadka as he does not intend to remain in active politics.

Deuba has not attended any party meetings since the Gen Z movement. During the Gen Z protesters’ attack on September 9, both President Deuba and his spouse, Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, were seriously injured. They have now been discharged from the hospital and are residing in Lalitpur.
The meeting is expected to discuss recent developments and agenda prepared for the upcoming Central Committee meeting on October 12.
This will be the NC’s first meeting following the Gen Z movement.
Like other major parties in the country, the debate over leadership change has intensified within the NC. General Secretaries Gangan Thapa and Biswa Prakash Sharma have strongly demanded that Deuba pave the way for new leadership.
Meanwhile, several general convention delegates have launched a signature campaign for a special general convention. In this context, everyone is eagerly waiting to see how Deuba will respond to the situation.
