KATHMANDU, Dec 23: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr Shekhar Koirala has said the party’s general convention is likely to be postponed for some time, citing technical and logistical reasons.
Speaking at a program in Kathmandu on Tuesday to mark the 102nd birth anniversary of late leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, Dr Koirala noted that although he was personally in favor of holding the convention on the fixed date of December 10, any delay caused due to the regular process should not be made a big issue.

“While there has been growing public interest in the convention, it is a routine internal process held every four years and should not be a cause for undue concern,” Koirala said.
He added he personally had no intention of delaying it. According to him, the possibility of postponement has arisen due to complications in the distribution of active membership, particularly the circulation of forms without proper serial numbers.
Dr Koirala also remarked that although the government has announced March 5 as the election date, the conditions necessary for holding polls do not yet appear to be in place as there is little sign of an election environment nationwide.
