NAC chairman resigns

KATHMANDU, Sept 11: Executive Chairman and General Manager of Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) Manarup Shahi has resigned from his post.



Shahi submitted his resignation to Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Post Bahadur Bogati on Sunday, according to senior officials at the tourism ministry. [break]



Shahi´s resignation comes at a time when Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has initiated probe against him for presenting fake academic certificates.



The complaint filed against Shahi at the constitutional anti-graft body states that Shahi does not have academic qualification rquired for the post.



As per the existing regulations, one must have Master´s degree in any discipline or at least 10 years of experience in aviation industry to become executive chairman of NAC. Shahi was appointed to the post on June 29 last year on strong recommendation of then tourism minister Khadga Bahadur Bishwokarma.



A source close to Shahi said Shahi has not completed even secondary level education.
