The panel of Nabina Lama, a student leader loyal to CPN-UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, had all but swept the election for the leadership of the ANNFSU defeating the rival panel led by Deepak Gautam in what turned out to be a highly contentious election.
Gautam congratulated Lama offering the latter a bouquet.
Outgoing Chairperson Kishor Bikram Malla handed over the responsibility to new chairman Lama.
The Lama panel has won most of the 141 seats in the central committee. The election was being contested for 17 office-bearer posts and 141 seats for central committee members. Lama panel has also swept positions in other various committees such as election, finance among others.
The general convention of the ANNFSU started on Feb 11 Thursday, but voting had started only after a week and counting was too delayed.
