Monthly power theft in Dhanusha valued at Rs 25m

JANAKPUR, Feb 14: The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has said that electricity theft in Dhanusha district is valued at Rs 25 million per month.

The pilfered power is 53 percent of the total power supply to the district. According to NEA Janakpur's distribution center chief Jitendra Jha leakage control mechanism was defunct during the Madhes agitation."During protests, electricity theft was rampant in villages," Jha said.

According to NEA Janakpur, Rs 369.1 million in electricity bills from 70,000 customers in the district.

Meanwhile, NEA accounts officer Babulal Bishwakarma said that Rs 25 million has been collected from 435 out of total 991 customers. He said NEA had to cut off the power supply to recover the amount from them.
