At an interaction organized by the Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC) here today, the speakers said criminal activities have been increased in the country due to lack of control on small and lethal weapons.[break]
On the occasion, Director at the National Human Rights Commission, Bed Prasad Bhattarai said violent and criminal activities have increased mainly in Tarai areas of the country due to rampant use of small weapons.
Bhattarai said serious challenges have appeared in guaranteeing human rights by increasing various violent activities as the government could not control the small weapons and involvement of security personnel in criminal activities in some districts.
Member of the Army Integration Special Committee, Deepak Prakash Bhatta, said it was sad that violent activities have increased even after long time of the peace process.
Human right activist Devika Timalsina said political uncertainty, lack of good governance and use of fatal weapons has increased violence and added that mostly women and children have been victimized from it.
As per the government statistics, various incidents including attempts to murder, murder and rape have increased by 163 per cent in the country from 2006-2010, it is learnt.
Similarly, a total of 670 persons were victimized in 485 incidents that occurred in 2010 and 907 persons in 702 incidents in 2011, as per the statistics of INSEC.
