KATHMANDU, Jan 26: As part of the Martyrs Week, tributes were paid to martyr Dharma Bhakta Mathema on Sunday.
In the commemoration program held at Sifal in Kathmandu where Mathema attained martyrdom, tributes were paid by offering flower bouquets on his statue.
On the occasion, Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol opined that all should be inspired by the sacrifice made by martyr Mathema for the country and its people.

The then Rana rulers had sentenced Mathema to death in Sifal on 13th Magh 1997 BS ( 26th January 1941) on charges of sedition and conducting various political activities against the system.
Senior educationist Kedar Bhakta Mathema said that martyr Mathema gave his life for bringing about a democratic system in the country and it is an inspiration for the new generation. He said that the dreams of the martyrs will be realized only if the people can be made happy and prosperous.
The program was organized in coordination with the KMC.
The Martyrs Week commenced on January 23 and will last until January 29 during which commemorative programs will be held on different days of the week eulogizing the four pioneering martyrs and remembering their contribution for civic freedom and democracy.
