Nepali team has been training in Sri Lanka for last two weeks for participation in the ICC World Cricket League Division 4 to be held in Malaysia from September 3 to 10.[break]
On Friday, Nepal batted first and scored 217/6 and bowled out Joseph Vas Club for 101 runs. Malla scored 108 runs while Sharad Vesawkar added 39 runs. Subash Khakurel and Paras Khadka chipped in with 14 runs each. Chasing the target of 218 runs, Joseph Vas Club suffered a 116-run defeat as Basant Regmi took four wickets and Sanjam Regmi claimed three wickets. Shakti Gauchan dismissed two batsmen and Binod Das took a wicket.
Nepali team will reach Malaysia on Saturday for Division 4. All-rounder Pradeep Airee and spinner Rahul Vishwakarma, who are still in Nepal, will also fly to Malaysia on Saturday. Airee and Vishwakarma could not join the team in Sri Lanka due to technical problems though their U-19 teammates Prithu Baskota and Subash Khakurel joined the national side on Sunday.
Nepal will take on Singapore on Monday in its first match. Host Malaysia, Denmark, Tanzania and the USA are the other teams in Division 4.
Top two teams of the Division 4 will be promoted to Division 3 and bottom two teams will be relegated to Division 5.
Umpire Subedi off to Malaysia
Meanwhile, Nepali Umpire Durga Nath Subedi left for Malaysia on Friday to officiate in Division 4 matches. He has already officiated in the ICC World Cricket League Division 6 and ICC World Cricket League Division 5 tournaments as per the program of International Cricket Council (ICC).
