KATHMANDU, March 7: Shankar Tiwari, a prominent youth leader of the Nepali Congress (NC), has urged party leaders and cadres to focus on constructive self-reflection rather than internal blame games following the party’s setback in the House of Representatives (HoR) elections.
In a public statement issued on Saturday, Tiwari said the party’s poor performance, amid the sweeping gains of the newly emergent Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), should prompt the NC to rethink its strategies and reaffirm its commitment to national responsibilities. “It is crucial for the Nepali Congress to undertake self-reflection from a fresh perspective, rather than getting lost in internal accusations and rivalries,” he said.

Tiwari noted that the party’s special general convention, which elected new leadership shortly before the polls, provides a framework for internal reform. He added that the way forward lies in broad internal review, dialogue, and collaboration, ensuring the party emerges as a strong and credible opposition.
He emphasised that the NC, as a historic national force, has consistently fulfilled its role whether in government, in opposition, in exile, or on the streets. “The party must now transform itself into a force capable of effectively carrying out its national responsibilities,” Tiwari said.
The youth leader also cautioned that election results reflect a specific moment in time and should not be a cause for despair. He called on all party workers, supporters, and well-wishers to remain steadfast and focused on strengthening the party’s role as a professional, principled, and duty-bound opposition in Parliament.
