CHITWAN, Feb 13: A Task Force formed to investigate the death of the wild elephant, Makuna, in the Lamital area of Chitwan National Park's Kumroj Buffer Zone has completed its on-site study.
The team led by Dr Buddhisagar Poudel, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Forests and Environment, returned to Kathmandu after three days of fieldwork. The Task Force, which included representatives from Chitwan National Park, the Nepali Army, and other concerned parties, held discussions and inspected the incident site.

Abinash Thapa Magar, the park’s Information Officer, confirmed that the team had completed its investigation and returned to Kathmandu on Wednesday. The investigation began on February 7 and involved discussions with private elephant operators, members of the United Elephant Cooperative and community forest representatives. The team gathered feedback on the sustainable management of private elephants and their integration into the park.
The Task Force, which included members Purushottam Sharma, Senior Monitoring Officer at the National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Department and other experts, is expected to include safety measures and recommendations in its final report to prevent future incidents.
