A single bench of Judge Basishtha Kumar Ghimire of the Rupandehi District Court on Monday had ordered the remand of Joshi, the defendant in the Supreme Cooperative Fraud case in Butwal, for pre-trial detention.

Joshi’s son Rochak Joshi, who is also an advocate, had filed a petition seeking to annul the order, arguing that the issues mentioned in the order were biased. Similarly, Joshi had appeared in court himself on Monday for a statement. After the statement recording and detention hearing, the district court had sent Joshi to custody.

A case was registered in the Rupandehi District Court on January 19 against Joshi, Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane and others for embezzling funds from Supreme Cooperative. The charge sheet mentioned the defendants embezzled Rs 861.82 from 1,831 depositors.
