Major parties agree over Constitution Amendment Bill

KATHMANDU, Jan 23: Major political parties have forged an agreement over changes in the Constitution Amendment Bill on Saturday.

The meeting of the parties held at Singha Durbar this evening agreed on the amendment proposal registered by Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Minendra Rijal on the bill.

“Parties have reached an accord over changes in the bill,” Chief Whip of Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-N) Dilnath Giri told Republica, “The bill will be endorsed by the parliament today.”
   
According to the agreement, there will be at least one constituency in each district and remaining constituencies will be fixed on the basis of population.

The United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) was apprised on the decision of the major parties. The front, termed the agreement positive, but said it won’t support it.
