KATHMANDU, Nov 8: The Kathmandu District Attorney Office on Sunday filed a case at the Special Court demanding life imprisonment for footballers accused of match fixing.
The office filed the case as per the Clause 3.1 of the ‘Crime against State and Punishment Act, 1989’. The police had suggested filing the case as per the Clause 3.3 of the act.

Likewise according to Clause 3.3, if someone causes or attempts to cause a conspiracy to jeopardize the sovereignty, integrity or national unity of Nepal with the help of a foreign state or organized force, he/she shall be liable for life imprisonment or an imprisonment up to ten years.
Five footballers, including national team skipper Sagar Thapa, were arrested on October 14 for their alleged involvement in match-fixing during international fixtures, under the financial inducement of bookies.
The arrested are three national players --Thapa, Sandeep Rai and Ritesh Thapa -- and two former Nepali internationals - Anjan KC and Bikash Singh Chhetri. Most of them were defenders.
