KUKL to supply water twice a week

KATHMANDU, July 13: A good rain so far this year has brought some relief to the inhabitants of the capital as Kathmandu Upateka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) has announced that it would supply water twice a week to consumers taps. KUKL, the sole distributor of drinking water in the capital, said that the new routine will come into effect from July 14.



People of the capital are getting water once a week till now. In some areas, KUKL releases water once every six days.[break]



“The new schedule will last up to 6 months with water flowing out of the tap for two hours twice a week,” spokesperson of KUKL Suresh Prasad Acharya said. He said the new arrangement is a great relief to the people who are facing scarcity of water for a long time. But the people who consume water from KUKL´s Balaju treatment plant will get water only once four days.



“The consumer of the Mahankalchaur and Basbari treatment plants will get water once every three days,” he added.



KUKL said the water production has increased by 40 million liters per day. In the dry season, the production is just 90 million liters a day. KUKL said per day demand of the water in the capital is 320 million liters.
