KATHMANDU, Nov 7: Kaag Tihar, the first day of the Tihar festival, is being celebrated today by offering delicious food to crows.
The crow is regarded as the messenger of Yamraj, the Hindu god of death and justice. Kaag Tihar is celebrated on the day of Trayodashi.
Kaag tihar being observed today
Chairperson of the Nepal Calendar Determination Development Committee, Dr Purushottam Bhattarai, said that a decision was made to celebrate Kaag Tihar today as religious scriptures prescribe that the festival be observed on the morning of Trayodashi.
On the occasion, special worship is being held today at Kageshwori Mahadev Temple in Kageshwori Manohara Municipality-1. Similarly, special worship of crows is also being performed at Kageshwori Temple in Hanumandhoka.
The Tihar festival is associated with the belief that Yamraj punishes those who commit evil deeds and protects those who do good deeds, becoming Dharmaraj.
