KATHMANDU, Jan 6: Cricket Ireland on Wednesday confirmed it has accepted the invitation from the International Cricket Council (ICC) to take part in the ICC U-19 World Cup slated to be held in Bangladesh from January 22 to February 14.

The ICC had invited Ireland to participate in the youth world cup following the withdrawal of Australia from the competition citing security reasons.Ireland had finished runner-up in the ICC U-19 World Cup Qualifiers held in Malaysia in October. Nepal had booked its place for the competition beating Ireland in the final of the qualifiers.

"Firstly, we are grateful to the ICC for extending the invitation to us to participate in the tournament," reads a statement issued by Cricket Ireland CEO Warren Deutrom on their official website.

"While we are fully aware of the heightened security risk in the country, all we can do is to rely upon expert advice, which tells us that the tournament security plan appears very comprehensive - an estimation supported by the independent assessments we have seen. Of course, we shall continue to monitor events and maintain regular contact with the ICC in case the situation changes," said Deutrom.

Ireland will replace Australia in Group D and will play its matches against India (in Mirpur on 28 January), Nepal (in Fatullah on 30 January) and New Zealand (in Fatullah on 1 February).
