KATHMANDU, Aug 9: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) declined 72.26 points last week continuing the bearish trend of the previous week.
The secondary market opened at 2,922.63 points on Sunday and closed at 2,850.37 points on Thursday. During the period, the market went as high as 2,923.88 points and plunged as low as 2,826.86 points, registering the market volatility of 97.02 points.
Last week, the market plummeted 63.73 points on Sunday to open for the weekday trading. Following a successive drop of three days, the market on Monday recovered 16.46 points. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the market again declined 41.78 points and 1.94 points, respectively. However, the market closed for the week by adding 18.30 points on Thursday.

Out of the 13 groups, only trading increased a nominal of 0.09 percent of its market index. Of the 12 losers, ‘others’ index declined by the highest of 5.25 percent, followed by the development bank with 4.42 percent.
Considering the performance of individual companies, share price of Sanvi Energy Limited decreased by 13.28 percent, whereas Samaj Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha gained the highest of 18.26 percent. Share transactions of Himalayan Reinsurance Limited stood at Rs 2.18 billion, the largest of all.
The total turnover amount declined by 49.02 percent to Rs 49.40 billion. The average daily turnover also dropped to Rs 9.88 billion from Rs 19.37 billion.
Along with the NEPSE index, the market capitalization also declined to Rs 4.757 trillion from Rs 4.876 trillion, which made investors face a loss worth Rs 119 billion in their investment portfolio. The loss amount was recorded at 101 billion in the previous week.
