BIRATNAGAR, Dec 26: Traders participating in Neoteric CAN InfoTech, held for the first time in the eastern city of Biratnagar, recorded transactions to the tune of Rs 5 million. The four-day event witnessed a huge visitor turnout till Monday evening, when the event was scheduled to conclude.

“The sales were pretty good. People rushed for ICT products. Most of the 90 stalls at the InfoTech offered gifts like flash drive and anti-virus software on the purchase of computers,” said Rajan Lamsal, media coordinator for the event.[break]

The event witnessed 60,000 footfalls and it was a grand success, stated Santosh Dahal, president of the Morang chapter of Computer Association of Nepal (CAN), the main organizer of the event. The InfoTech featured a wide range of products including the oldest computer that entered Nepal and the latest laptops from the top brands.

Visitors were lured mainly because the traders offered discounted rates, making the products cheaper at the event compared to the market. Free Internet access was another attraction for the visitors.

Apart from showcasing and selling different ICT products, the InfoTech also held a series of discussions and demonstrations on the sidelines of the event. The organizer had allocated separate areas for ICT fair, seminar, product demo, gaming, and career guidance, among others.

Interactive board installed by MegaTech, computer museum, and gaming zones lured a large number of visitors, Nirmal Tamang, coordinator of the event, said.

The organizer announced that it will organise the InfoTech in Biratnagar every year.
