‘I understood’: Sushil Koirala’s last word

KATHMANDU, Feb 9: Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala is said to have spoken his last words to his private doctor Dr Karbir Yogi and his private aide Krishna Aryal just before he breathed his last.

Dr Yogi was involved in his treatment during his last hours.


According to the late Koirala’s press aide Prakash Adhikari, Koirala spoke the words ‘Maile Bujhisakein’, translated as ‘I understood’ while consultations were underway in relation to his treatment when his pulse beat was getting down.

Dr Yogi was sent to Koirala’s residence at Maharajgunj in Kathmandu after his health condition started deteriorating, Adhikari said, adding that thereafter Koirala was administered oxygen and a nebulizer was used to administer medication to him.

A cancer survivor, Koirala was suffering from pneumonia and fever lately.

At times in need, he would be given oxygen and nebulizer would be used to administer him medication when asthma caught him badly lately, Adhikari said.

Elected as NC president from the NC’s 12th general convention, Koirala served NC, the country and people as NC vice president, general secretary and central member beforehand.

Koirala-led government also created history in Federal Democratic Republic Nepal, delivering a constitution through people’s representative body Constituent Assembly, which is the first of its kind in Nepal. RSS
