Bibek Panta, on the other hand, thinks that the student unions are not powerful as they don’t have access in the decision making process regarding academic strategy not the appointment makings.
“They just have one role and that’s agitation as per the direction by their respective parties. They also have the power to create turmoil but they certainly don’t have rational power pertaining to decision making,” he says.
Student unions have always been there and should be working for the students, hence the title. But the unions, never really make positive news, hence the negative perception of the people is only apparent.
“They only look powerful but actually they are worthless. In my point of view, student unions are just a toy for the central party members of the political parties who make them do things for their selfish purpose and interest,” says Sohan Gupta of Rampur Campus, adding that politics is practiced in his campus and that its dominant.
“It’s also amazing how one is lured to become a member and more amazing is how fast you get the membership,” shared Gupta.
Nodding to all three answers, Binaya Humagain thinks that the student unions are very powerful but that they are not using the power in a good way.
