KATHMANDU, June 18: Parliament's Special National Committee for Disaster Management, Monitoring and Direction has directed the government to provide same amount of relief to the families whose kin went missing or died in the April earthquake and in the landslides that occurred in its wake.

The committee's decision comes after a recommendation made by its subcommittee on Thursday to provide equal relief to the families of the missing as chances of rescuing them alive remains slim.Purna Bahadur Khadka-led subcommittee had made such recommendation to the full committee.

Various lawmakers flayed the subcommittee report in the committee meeting on Thursday, for not incorporating important suggestions made by various groups of lawmakers visiting the quake-ravaged districts. Lawmakers drew the attention of the committee to lack of measures to address the problems in Sindhupalchowk and Gorkha districts.

Subas Nembang-led full committee has asked the lawmakers to submit their written suggestions to the committee on the report at the earliest.

Among other things, the subcommittee in its full report has suggested the full committee to direct the government to relocate various settlements in quake-hit districts, and ensure resumption of transportation service in quake-hit areas by repairing quake-ravaged tracks.
