MALAHIDE, Ireland, Sept 3: Eoin Morgan (124 not out) and Ravi Bopara (101 not out) set a new one-day international fifth-wicket record stand of 226 as England beat Ireland by six wickets at Malahide on Tuesday.

Former Ireland batsman Morgan, England´s captain in the absence of the rested Alastair Cook, and Bopara came together when the visitors were in dire straits at 48 for four.[break]

But from looking like they might lose the game, England ultimately won with seven overs remaining.

Morgan and Bopara´s unbroken stand surpassed the 16-year-old fifth-wicket record at this level of 223 set by India´s Mohammad Azharuddin and Ajay Jadeja against Sri Lanka in Colombo.
