Traders said Indian detergents available in Nepali market are used in washing machines where as locally manufactured detergents are popular for manual washing purposes.[break]
“Those who have washing machines prefer Indian brand detergents while Nepali detergents are used for manual washing purposes. Detergents preferred for washing machines are getting more popular compared to general detergents,” said Tulsi Shrestha, supervisor of Bhat-Bhateni Department Store at Koteshwar.
According to traders more than 30 varieties of detergents are available in the local market. Some of the available washing powders are exclusively fit for washing machines whereas some can be used for both machine and manual uses.
Some major detergents such as Henko, Ariel, Tide, Surf Excel and Mr White are used in washing machines whereas detergents such as Shakti Wheel and Wheel Lemon Fresh are popular for manual washing purpose.
“Our store has varieties of detergents among which some are highly popular among consumers,” said Shrestha. According to him, Henko is the most in demand.
“Most consumers who use washing machines, demand imported detergents,” said Sushil Subedi, store manager at Bigmart Department Store, City Center. According to him, the store sells detergents worth Rs 6,000 everyday.
