KATHMANDU, Nov 9: The protesting United Democratic Madheshi Front (UDMF) has said it was unaware of talks with the government slated for Monday afternoon.

Tweeting on Sunday night, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa had said the talks between the government and the front will be held at 1 pm today.

However, talking to Republica, member of UDMF talks team and Senior Vice-chairman of Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party (TMDP) Hirdesh Tripathi said they have no information on talks.

He said that during the last talks, they agreed to settle the issue of provincial delineation through broader consensus between the ruling coalition, agitating parties and the opposition parties including the main opposition Nepali Congress.

He added that possibility of talks has now diminished as no progress was made on the matter.

“As discussions were not held among top-notch leaders, there is no significance of sitting for talks.”

He further accused the government of foiling environment for talks.

On the other hand, coordinator of government team Thapa said the talks was postponed due to lack of homework.
