KATHMANDU, May 28: The Ministry of Urban Development has said that property worth Rs 25.93 billion plus was destroyed after the government buildings collapsed by the April 25 Gorkha Earthquake and subsequent temblors.

The Ministry estimates that the total loss of the private houses could be made public by mid June.

Ministry's Spokesperson Padam Kumar Mainali said that the total loss incurred in the settlement areas would be announced after the post-disaster needs assessment.

"Damage is very high in residential buildings. More houses have been damaged in Gorkha, Dhading, Nuwakot, Rasuwa, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Makawanpur, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Kavre, Ramechhap, Sindhuli and Okhaldhunga districts," Mainali said.

"Policy would be prepared for moving ahead in the reconstruction bid after holding meeting with the donors," he said.

He, however, said that epidemic outbreak was not seen so far in the districts as toilets have not been collapsed even though 90 per cent of the houses were damaged by the quakes. RSS
