Govt, ATMM ink six-point pact

LAHAN, Jan 21: The first round of talks between the government and Akhil Tarai Mukti Morcha (ATMM) led by Ajit Singh, an armed outfit operating in the Tarai, concluded with a six-point agreement at District Development Committee building, Saptari on Saturday.



As per the agreement, ATMM has agreed to renounce violent activities and participate in peaceful politics and expressed its support and commitment to peace and constitution writing. [break]



The government has also agreed to provide security to members of the talks team representing ATMM and initiate the process of withdrawing cases against its leaders and cadres to create a favorable environment for second round of talks.



Both the sides have agreed to continue second round of talks on the basis of mutual understanding.



A government team led by Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Satya Pahadi had arrived in Lahan on Friday for talks with armed outfits operating in the Tarai.
