Govt, 3rd Tarai group ink pact

KATHMANDU, Dec 31: The government and the Tarai Samyukta Janakranti Party Nepal (TSJPN), a Tarai-based armed outfit, reached a five-point agreement Wednesday evening.



As per the agreement the government will ensure the security of the TSJPN dialogue team during the talks period. TSJPN will stop all violent and aggressive activities and the government will deal with the party´s cadres politically, the agreement says.



The party will submit a list of its members who have been detained and the government will gradually release them after conducting some investigations. Likewise, the government has committed itself to making legal arrangements for uplifting people from the Other Backward Communities (OBCs). The fifth point of the agreement is about taking initiatives to bring other Tarai-based armed groups into the talks.



Minister for Peace and Reconstruction Janardan Sharma headed the government dialogue team and Gajendra Mandal aka Anurag led the TSJPN team. Minister for Local Development Ram Chandra Jha and Minister for Education Renu Yadav were the other two members of the government team.
