KATHMANDU, Dec 24: Tarai-based parties on Thursday urged the government to end the oath controversy of the now defunct vice president Paramananda Jha at the earliest.

A joint meeting of the Madhesi People´s Rights Forum (Democratic), Tarai-Madhes Democratic Party and Sadbhavana Party held at TMDP´s parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar asked the government to pass a bill to allow oath-taking in mother tongue.

The government has already tabled a bill related to this in the parliament. The prolonged House obstruction on the part of the Maoists had delayed the passage of the bill.

The government has stripped all state privileges of Jha as he declined to take fresh oath in Nepali language as per the August verdict of Supreme Court. The apex court had nullified the oath he had taken in Hindi language earlier.
