Govt a mere spectator as Birat explicitly sells petrol at Rs 130 per liter

KATHMANDU, March 10: Although fuel supply has returned to normalcy, Birat Petroleum is explicitly selling petrol at an arbitrary rate of Rs 130 per liter.

The private company on Thursday sold petrol, which it claims to be of Euro-4 standard, at the higher rate while petrol was easily available at Rs 99 per liter across Valley’s fuel stations.

In a surprise move, regulatory government bodies have allowed Birat Petroleum to sell the petrol from government authorized petrol pumps by flouting the law.

The existing legal provision bars government authorized petrol pumps from selling fuel imported by others than Nepal Oil Corporation.

The government has also slaughtered consumers’ rights and promoted black marketing by allowing the private firm to fix the rate of petrol on its own.
