GoldenGate sets up final with Gurukul

KATHMANDU, April 9: GoldenGate has set up a title clash with Gurukul in the First Kirtipur Cup Basketball League.



GoldenGate thrashed the tournament host Naya Bazaar Club 95-65 in the semifinal on Tuesday to book a final date with Gurukul, who defeated Whitehouse 72-58 in the first semifinal on Tuesday.[break]



GoldenGate dominated Naya Bazaar throughout the match. GoldenGate scored 23 points in the first quarter, whereas the host scored only 16 points. GoldenGate led the other three quarters as well with the scores of 30-21, 29-16 and 13-12 respectively to register a comprehensive win.



Sujan Pun topscored for GoldenGate with 19 points while Sushil Gurung, Anish Shahi and Manish Rajopadhyaya scored 14 points each.



Earlier, Gurukul beat Whitehouse 72-58 to continue its winning streak in the tournament. Gurukul, which won all 10 matches of the league round, scored 18 points in the first quarter against nine scored by Whitehouse. Gurukul extended the lead with second-quarter scores of 16-15. Whitehouse tried to bounce back scoring 19 points in the third quarter against 14 scored by Gurukul, but the latter took the last quarter 24-15 to win the match by a comfortable margin.



Sanjay Byanjankar scored 21 points and Rishi Robertson scored 10 points for Whitehouse. Tournament´s leading scorer Sadish Pradhan and Ajay Manandhar scored 18 points each for Gurukul. Pradhan has scored 243 points in the tournament while Ayush Singh of Naya Bazaar is the second highest scorer with 210 points.



The final match of the tournament will be played on Saturday at the host´s court at Kirtipur.
