Four arrested with jewelry worth Rs 20 million

Nepal Police arrested four persons along with jewelry and precious stones and made them public on Wednesday. The valuables are worth over Rs 20 million.

KATHMANDU, June 12: Nepal Police arrested four persons along with jewelry and precious stones and made them public on Wednesday. The valuables are worth over Rs 20 million. 


Those arrested are Haribor Sheikh, 43; Surojeet Das, 39; Tamol Sadra, 40, and Samuhim Sheikh, 16. All of them are Indian nationals, according to Apil Raj Bohara, Superintendent of Police and Spokesperson at Kathmandu District Range.

Habibor Sheikha from Calcutta, India, was running Munna Gems and Jewelers at Pyukha Krishna Chowk of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-22 and selling the jewelry and precious stones without making invoices. All of them were arrested following a tipoff.


The police officers, mobilized from multiple posts of the Kathmandu Valley, found the jewelry while searching the outlet. 


The arrested ones were handed over to the Inland Revenue Department for further investigation and action, Bohara said.
