KATHMANDU, June 6: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane has said that he invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Nitin Nabin to visit Nepal during trip to India, where he held a series of high-level meetings focused on strengthening Nepal-India ties.

Speaking to journalists at Tribhuvan International Airport upon his return on Friday, Lamichhane said he extended the invitations during separate bilateral meetings, adding that both leaders responded positively.

The RSP chief had traveled to India at the invitation of BJP President Nabin. During the five-day visit, he held separate meetings with Prime Minister Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Home Minister Amit Shah and Nabin.

Lamichhane said the discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in a range of sectors, including information technology, sports, connectivity and religious tourism, while also addressing issues concerning Nepali citizens living in India.

He said the RSP-led government had conveyed its priorities and expectations regarding Nepal-India relations, emphasizing the need for stronger bilateral engagement and more responsive diplomatic mechanisms.

On Nepal-India border disputes, Lamichhane stressed that such issues should be resolved through diplomatic channels.

“Diplomatic efforts are crucial in addressing border-related matters. These issues require gradual and sustained engagement, and progress is being made in that direction,” he said.

Lamichhane also said that the timing of a visit by Nepal’s prime minister to India would be decided based on the “appropriate time and context.”
