KATHMANDU, June 6: The western low-pressure trough in the upper atmosphere, along with partial influence of local winds, continues to affect Nepal’s weather system, the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology said on Friday.
According to the department, light to moderate rainfall, along with thunder and lightning, is likely in several parts of Koshi, Lumbini and Karnali provinces, as well as in hilly and mountainous regions across the country. A few areas in the Terai may also receive rainfall.
Westerly wind to trigger rising impact from tonight onward
At the same time, some locations in the plains of Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces may experience heatwave conditions, with rising temperatures expected in the southern plains.
The department reported that light to moderate rainfall has already been observed in parts of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini and Karnali provinces, along with some hilly areas of Sudurpaschim Province.
For tonight, Koshi Province and hilly and mountainous regions are expected to remain generally cloudy. The plains of Madhesh, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces will see partly cloudy conditions, while most parts of the remaining Terai will stay mainly clear.
Earlier this afternoon, cloudy conditions prevailed in Koshi and other hilly and mountainous regions, while the rest of the Terai experienced partly cloudy weather, the department added.
