KATHMANDU, March 15: Chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist) Madhav Kumar Nepal has accused former King Gyanendra of looting the country, asserting that the monarchy contributed nothing but self-interest.
Speaking at a press conference organized by the Socialist Front in Lalitpur on Saturday, Chairman Nepal stated that returning to a feudal system is unacceptable and that there is no alternative to the establishment of a socialist republic.
Why is former King Gyanendra visiting Bhutan?

The remarks of Chairman Nepal comes at a time when pro-royalist forces have lately stepped up their activities for the reinstatement of monarchy in the country. "Now, there is a call for change in the system. Certainly, the capitalist system must be changed, but we should not return to feudalism. The 104 years of Rana rule and the 240 years of monarchy were periods when rulers governed the country according to their own interests. We must now be freed from them. The socialist republic is the only way forward," he said.
Chairman Nepal urged everyone to abandon the mentality of dynastic rule and sharply criticized former King Gyanendra Shah. He accused the former king of looting the country without making any sacrifices, austerities, or contributions. "We should never hand over the country back into the hands of those with a history of looting," he emphasized.
Chairman Nepal further stated that the existing capitalist system in the country must be changed to establish a socialist republic. He also emphasized that the current system is under the influence of comprador capitalism, and its end is necessary.
Stating that a socialist system is necessary to preserve the dignity, prestige, and integrity of the country, Chairman Nepal said that the unity of the people is essential for this. He called upon the Nepali people to move forward in the direction of a socialist republic.
