The government is not taking any initiative to resettle the 41 families of Gulariya municipality, who lost their homes and property in the Babai floods of August 2014.The Babai flood victims have been kept at makeshift tents in Tulsipur-5. Several new mothers and infants are living in vulnerable conditions as many of the tents were blown away or damaged by strong winds last week. They say that they are forced to survive on the food provided by donors while some are working as laborers to make their ends meet.
There are more than 12 new mothers in temporary shelters.
Ram Bahadur Khatri, a flood victim, shared that they are forced to live in makeshift tents where drinking water and garbage management have been a major problem.
Executive Director of Gulariya Municipality Dharma Raj Neupane said, "During our field visit, we found that the victims are forced to live under open sky. The condition of pregnant women and infants are also degrading every day."
The Babai flood of August 2014 had affected almost 100,000 people in the district killing at least 34 people.
Chief District Office Bishnu Bahadur Thapa, however, informed that they have already written to the home ministry and sought a budget of Rs 20.5 million to resettle the flood victims.
