According to the Balanada Sharma, Coordinator at Special Committee Secretariat, 10,285 ex-rebels have received bank checks of the final installment of the retirement package by Sunday. [break]
“Distribution process of the bank checks to the former combatants is going on smoothly. The rush has decreased as we near completion,” said Sharma.
He also informed that check distribution will be completed by Sunday in some of cantonments. According to the Secretariat, 1,030 out of 1,269 ex-combatants in first division at Ilam as well as 880 out of 934 in Second Division in Sindhuli received last installment of the retirement package.
Similarly, 1,675 former combatants out of 2,722 in Shatikhor cantonment and 1,691 out of 2,141 in Forth division in Nawalparasi have already received their share of the retirement package.
In addition, 1,243 former Maoist combatants at Fifth Division Rolpa, 1,712 at Sixth division in Surkhet and 2,024 at Seventh division in Kailali have so far received the final package. There were a total of 1,658 combatant in Fifth Division Rolpa, 2,386 at Sixth division in Surkhet, 2,812 at Seventh division in Kailali waiting for their last installment of retirement package.
The former combatants will receive between Rs 500,000 to 800,000 depending upon ranks and post they held. They had received half of the amount in the first installment. The government has earmarked Rs 3.5 billion for this installment, according to the Secretariat. The distribution, which began on October 30 will run up to November 10.
The former combatants opting for voluntary retirement can collect their bank checks from the district administration offices nearest to their cantonments.
