Traders say Dashain is the time when Nepalis shop as if there is no tomorrow because they have money to spend as employers provide bonus and allowance to employees ahead of this festive season.
According to traders, sales during Dashain is about 30-40 percent higher than sales during normal times. “Since Dashain and sales of electronic goods share a very close correlation, dealers leave no stone unturned to cash in on the festive season,” Binay Tripathi, deputy general manager of Him Electronics that represents Samsung in Nepal told Republica.
One of the measures that traders resort to boost sales during the festive season is to throw flurry of schemes.
Him Electronics, for instance, is spending a whopping Rs 25 million on market promotion this festive season. “The amount is Rs 5 million more than that what the company had spent on market promotion last year,” Tripathi informed.
The promotional package includes gifts like hand blender, juicer mixer and grinder, pressure cooker and induction cooker, among others.
With these offerings, Him Electronics, which introduced its Dashain offer from Tuesday, is anticipating 35-40 percent growth in sales this festive season.
“Since consumers are habituated to these kinds of offers during the festive season, promotional schemes offer a lifeline to sales of electronic goods during this period,” Tripathi added.
CG Electronics, another major dealer of electronic goods, is also offering silver coins and scratch cards worth up to Rs 50,000 to lure customers. The trading company, which sells electronics of LG, CG, Godrej, TCL, Kelvinator and Toshiba, however, has limited these offers to purchase of LCD and LED of China-based TCL.
“We are offering pen drives, refrigerator kit and scratch cards worth up to Rs 50,000 on purchase of goods of other brands,” said Ramesh Shrestha, general manager of CG Electronics. “These offering are expected to boost sales by 30 percent this festive season.”
Ashwini Todi, managing director of Orbit International that represents Haier and Beko in Nepal, said Dashain is the time of the year when people buy at least one new item. “That´s why traders come up with schemes to attract the buyers,” said Todi.
The company is offering Beko oven, 4GB pen drives, winter jacket, T-shirt and pair of gloves on the purchase of Haier LED and others products from Beko and Haier.
“Sales during Dashain contribute around 30 percent to our annual transaction. This is why it is a crucial period for us,” added Todi.
