Father-son to lock horns for title

KATHMANDU, Oct 19: Nepal no 1 Hira Bahadur Thapa will vie with his son Amrit for the men´s singles title of Open Squash Tournament being held at the Satdobato Squash Academy.



Hira Bahadur, who is in his mid forties and has remained unbeaten since last 19 years in the squash, will meet his 17-year old son in the final on Saturday.[break]



Hira defeated Prabin Singh Kansakar 16-14, 11-4, 11-3 in the semifinal and Amrit defeated Sudip Bahadur Singh 11-6, 11-7, 11-7.



"Though it will be tough for me to play against dad, I still hope it will be competitive," said Amrit who is playing against his father for the first time in a competitive match.



Sharing his experience of playing with his father, Amrit said, "We have played several time but not in any competitive match. I have practiced shots with him."



Chhabilal Paija and Dilip Narsingh Adhikari made it to the plate final of men´s singles category. Paija defeated Kiran Maharjan 12-10, 13-11, 11-4 and Adhikari edged past Rajendra Shakya 11-8, 11-7, 11-5.



In women´s singles round robin league Nilima Malla toiled hard to beat Sneha Bansal 12-10, 11-8, 10-12, 12-14, 11-8. Malla scored nine points.
