DOTI, Feb 22: Although it has been two weeks since the border blockade ended formally and normal supply of fuel resumed from India, locals in far-west are still facing a shortage of petroleum products.

Even at the height of the blockade, people managed to get half-filled cooking gas cylinders. But there are no gas cylinders in the local market at present, according to Doti-chapter chairperson of the Hotel Business Association, Deepak Bahadur Khadka."We had expected that gas cylinders would be easily available after the end of the blockade. But it was a mistake," Keshab Bohara, a gas dealer said.

Dharma Singh Dhami, another distributor of cooking gas, informed that the gas cylinders provided to the dealers last week were not enough to meet the demand.

As per the dealers, about 500 gas cylinders are needed to meet the demand in Doti district.

Apart from LPG, even diesel and petrol are in short supply in the district.

"I always have to stand in long queues to buy fuel from petrol pumps," according to driver Hari Bahadur Kathayat.

An NOC officer Karna Prasad Jaisi informed that the NOC's Dhangadhi-based regional office has been importing fuel from India once every five or six days.

The continuous shortage of petroleum products has hampered different works, including construction of roads, Sunil Babu Dhakal, chief of Road Division Office, Dipayal, informed.
