Lawmakers Gokul Gharti, Tikaram Chemjong, Krishna Kumar Rai, Bhupendra Thep, Harka Bol Rai from CPN-UML; Dil Man Pakhrin from Nepali Congress; Shree Jabegu and Ganesh Man Pun from UCPN (Maoist); and Nagendra Kumal, president of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities, among others, were part of the delegation that handed over the issues to CA chair Nembang.
They have demanded that provision ensuring proportional representation of members from ethnic communities in all state agencies be included in the new constitution as a fundamental right.
They have also called for a provision for the creation of a commission on indigenous nationalities.
Adoption of multi-linguistic policy by provincial governments in the future federal set up is another of their demands. "Local languages should be official languages in the provinces" reads the 8-point statement submitted to CA chair Nembang.
They demanded that the 33 per cent seats reserved for women should be shared among women from various ethnic communities based on population ratio.
