Eight arrested while attempting to halt customs office

RAUTAHAT, Sept 24: Police have arrested eight protesters of Madheshi Front including central member of Federal Socialist Forum Nepal Ram Kishor Yadav while staging a sit-in at Customs Office, Gaur on Thursday.

Other arrestees are Dharmendra Patel, Paspat Yadav, Saradlal Yadav, Rajesh Sha, Lalan Yadav, Lalit Narayan Mallik and Prakash Dhai.

A clash was ensued when demonstrators tried to obstruct the works at customs office. Around half protesters ran to India after police used force to disperse them.

Front leader Anil Singh said they will toughen the protest from Friday.

Issuing separate press releases Wednesday, the alliance of four agitating Madhesi parties and the Tharuhat Joint Struggle Committee had said their protest programs would focus on highways, government offices and customs points.
