Speaking at a press conference here, Pandey elaborated that the new budget for 2009/10 will be announced in the last week of this fiscal year, and it will allocate more budget for education than what used to be allocated in the past.
“Education will remain our top priority, and will get maximum budget in the new fiscal year,” said Minister Pandey. He stated that additional money in the sector was also needed for improving the conditions of public schools and increasing the number of teachers.
A good chunk of budget will also go toward establishing new universities and scrapping of intermediate level, which will be replaced by 10 +2 system.
Pandey, who was in Chitwan to address a function of Press Chautari, stated that the budget will have new projects that will give impetus to capital expenses. “We will have projects that will gear up development spending,” he said, adding that the new approach has been taken by learning from the poor capital spending recorded in this fiscal year.
The new budget will also allocate substantial amount of money for driving the peace process and constitution-drafting process to logical end.
“People from diverse walks of life have their own expectations, but we are not in a position to address all of them,” said Pandey, adding that the budget will adhere to the spirit of inclusive development and focus at maintaining political balance.
