KATHMANDU, July 31: The Election Commission (EC) has revoked the election code of conduct, a day after the constitutional body formally announced that election of the Constituent Assembly (CA) is not possible on November 22.

Issuing a press statement on Tuesday, EC said, "The election code of conduct enforced in order to conduct a free, fair and credible election has been annulled from today (Tuesday)."[break]

According to the statement, EC has also informed the government about its decision.

The constitutional body had enforced a 12-point code of conduct in view of the November-22 CA polls.

EC on Monday had made it clear that it would not be able to hold the CA election on the stipulated date as the government had failed to amend election-related laws and the interim constitution on time.

The Baburam Bhattarai-led coalition government had announced fresh CA polls for November 22 after the CA expired on May 27.
