KATHMANDU, Dec 9: The Election Commission (EC) has canceled the registration of a political party that failed to pay the fine imposed for not submitting financial statements on time, making it ineligible to contest the upcoming elections.
The EC had received applications for party registration for the House of Representatives election by November 30 with a total of 120 parties submitting their requests.

Among these 120 parties, six had been fined for failing to submit their income-expenditure statements on time. These were: Akhand Sudurpaschim Party Nepal, Federal Developmentalist Party Nepal, Gandhibadi Party Nepal, Federal Nepal Party, Nepal Matrubhumi Party, and Rastrabadi Yuva Morcha.
Of these six, one party withdrew its registration application for the election, while four parties submitted applications to contest jointly with other parties and paid the fines set by the EC.
However, Akhand Sudurpaschim Party did not pay the fine. Due to non-payment, the EC canceled its registration application, barring it from contesting the elections.
The EC has already published the list of parties participating in the elections scheduled for March 5. A total of 114 parties are contesting in the direct election, while the registration process for the proportional representation system is ongoing.
